Script for Thriller Film Opening

  • Rose, if you can hear this, if you’re out there listening, please let me know you’re safe.
  • We miss you rose
  • It’s been over 3 days
  • I just want my daughter back
  • Dylan just wants his big sister back
  • I feel sure Rose is alive I am so connected with her
  • If you know anything on Rose’s disappearance please think of this torn apart family
  • Rose, come home
  • I will never give up Rose, she knows that
  • As a family we just want to be whole again
  • Rose can you hear this?
  • We miss you, we all miss you
  • This is the first time you’ve ever done anything like this, we don’t know why, but we love you so much rose.
  • Please Rose, come home.

For the course of the script there will be brief pauses in between each phrase of speech, this will both lengthen the amount of speech within as well as leave an eerie feel for those listening.
My idea for the script came from real life events in today’s society, the speaker will be Roses Mum, as she pleas out to her missing child for her to come home. The voice will be a grown woman’s and will break in each sentence to show her true pain and loss, this will give off the realism of the film as we hear the devastation in her voice.
I chose to use short sentences overall as I feel this will be more effective and create a lot of tension, I intend to make it sound like it’s being aired on a radio because in cases like this we do see this type of convention.
The speech will play as a voice over throughout the opening; this keeps identities of the main protagonist’s hidden, which again evokes a suspenseful response from the viewers.

Missing Poster Prop

As my film opening is based around an abduction and the title of the actual opening is called The Missing, I had the chance to make a missing poster that will be featured within the clip. I researched a range of different posters and then worked on my own to make it both original and realistic to ones I had seen previously. I noticed these were the key elements of a missing poster and therefore I incorporated them into my own, the colours red, white and black were used frequently as a way to make it stand out and furthermore, each colour links to the thriller genre with their significant connotations.

Font and Title Ideas

The missing titles from ellelew

I found that working with different types of fonts and thinking of different title names it allowed me to experience a different type of media as well as discover new techniques and be creative. This PowerPoint also let me see the ideas of what I wanted to create and the technical side allowed me to push myself for a high standard outcome. I think that working with different font types and being able to manipulate them in to different colours gains an image in your head of different work and can show you that sometimes simplicity is better than something over dramatic.

Animatic Story Board

I have created an animatic movie board in order to show my audience the timing and shots I wish to incorporate whilst filming. During this process I was able to identify what type of shot lengths to do as I didn’t want to make any too long or any too short, because this wouldn’t be entertaining for the viewers. This task also allowed me to be creative in what type if shots to illustrate, I wanted to have variation within so that my audience would always be on the edge of their seat, as this is a very important element part of the thriller genre.

Call Sheet

I have created my own call sheet based on the filming, travel and characters of my thriller film opening. I found this task to beneficial as it allowed me to organise things into an order that can we worked around easily. I have included all concepts from the filming day to the health and safety methods, I found that creating this call sheet gave me a taste of full experience on how a real life film would be produced.  The aim of a call sheet is to ensure everyone knows where, when and what to do, this prevents too many questions being asked at once and is also a near and organised format to portray it.

Character Profiles

Character profiles from ellelew

I created a PowerPoint on the profiles of characters who will be featuring in my film, I found this to be important as it gave me the chance to go into depth about what they would be wearing, how they would be used and what type of people they are. I found this task gave me a lot of inspiration as to how to portray the different characters, I am only incorporating 2 characters as I don’t want to over complicate things, both characters are equally different and will work well together in my film opening.

Locations

Here are the locations I will be filming at for my thriller film opening, I have listed what will be happening at each location and spoke about if I need permission or not. On top of this I have noted down reason for filming at these locations as well as incorporated a mood board of ideas for the locations I desired to shoot at. I found it to be beneficial for me to make this PowerPoint as it puts things into perspective of what is happening and where.
